映画「奇跡の人」で史上最年少のアカデミー女優助演賞を受賞したパティーデューク（当時16歳）が、パテイとキャシーという性格も何もかもが違う従妹同士ながら見かけはそっくりの二人を演じたホームコメディー。
ニューヨークのブルックリンハイツに住むレーン家は、パティと新聞編集者の父マーティン、母のナタリー、弟のロスの四人暮らし。
父マーティンは双生児で、パティにはスコットランドに住む同い年のいとこキャシーがいる。
パティとキャシーは容姿はそっくりだが性格がまるで違う。
