1965年～1974年 アメリカ クィン・マーティン・プロダクション制作
FBIとその長官ジョン・エドガー・フーヴァーの全面協力の下、FBIの活動を過去の犯罪記録に基づいてドラマ化したもので、テレビで初めて「FBI」の名前の使用が許可された。
ただし、撮影にあたっては現役のFBI捜査官が常にアドバイザーとして傍らについていた。
ジェームズ・スチュワートが主演した1959年の映画「連邦警察」
などがベースになっている。FBIを題材にしたテレビ・シリーズを制作するにあたり、FBI長官の承認を得る事が最も困難だと思われていたが、世界的ヴァイオリニストでありフィラデルフィアのカーティス音楽院のディレクターを父に持ち、更に、「サンセット77」の6年間にわたる大成功というエフレム・ジンバリスト・ジュニアのキャリアが決め手になったといわれる。
